Columbia Men's Thermarator II Jacket, Ebony Blue/Heather, XX-Large Review

I got this jacket for my Dad who is visiting me this Fall and Winter in Upstate New York. I wanted him to have a nice, warm, stylish, not-to-bulky, but serious coat for the chilly Fall and early winters. Quick verdict: he loved the color [deep wood/heather], texture, and fit.

Now some Analysis:

Compared to Thermarator I: In fact, the Thermarator I is part of the Columbia Titanium Collection. Last year, I got the Thermarator I [but returned it], which was more stylish/trendy [with a pocket on the arm], but in terms of the seriousness of the texture [when you touch it you know it will keep you warm], the Thermarator II is a major improvement.

Coming to the Thermarator II:

Texture:My dad doesn't like the cold [he is from South India], but when I felt the texture I knew it would live up to its title.

Fit: Typically, I feel Columbia jackets run a little bigger/longer compared to other brands [this does not include the Titanium collection though]. But my dad is tall and a medium-bulky built so this fit is just great for him. I got him a Large [although the Columbia Watertight jacket fits him in Medium]. Overall, the fit is not loose and neither is it a slim-fit/body fit.

Color and Style: it is suave and mature. the grey stripe/pattern below the arm adds to the style. Columbia has clearly deliberately delivered a simple, elegant and effective design, without getting all fancy with pockets and zippers. Not sure if youngsters will take to this style, but it is ideal for people of my dad's age.

Technology: this jacket comes with Omni-heat reflective so the texture feels thin---i.e not bulky. It is different from Omni-heat insulated, which feels thick and plushy. The Omni-heat reflective [the silver dots inside] is ideal if you will be using this for activity so it will generate some heat for you. The insulated technology is ideal if you need warm when you are not planning much activity. That is why, perhaps, this jacket--Thermarator II---does not have vents under the arms. I have used this technology on other Columbia products and it is simply rocks!

My wish: I personally wish Columbia pays attention to the design inside of the coat and makes it more elegant. I am not refering to the dots, but the tailoring [see the back of the logo and you'll know what I mean]

Overall, this is a winner from Columbia! Definitely recommend the jacket. I am glad my dad loves it and he plans to wear it on the hike he is planning to the foot hills of the Himalayas!
